Grooveshark Lets You Play Any Song in the World for Free
I have tried using YouTube and last.fm to make a favorite song playlist i could listen to while I was working on my laptop - music to blog by. My musical taste is broad and eclectic and reflected in my playlist of old and new songs, but I do think my favorite music decade is the 80’s. With YouTube, some of the song videos on my playlist kept disappearing. So I tried Last.fm a while ago, but found out it only lets you listen to a song a limited number of times before you are requested to pay to play the song.
I haven’t tried Pandora, but I think I may have found my solution. Grooveshark is a web site that allows you to play any song in the world or create an internet radiostation for free. Grooveshark is a very easy way to find and listen to over 5 million songs. Find any tunes you like, make a playlist, and send it to your friends. I even found some older, more obscure songs from the local Boston music scene in the 80s-90’s, that I have not found in other places, like Heart Attack from the Heretix. You can select music from both signed and unsigned bands on their site (note to musicians out there that you might want to add some songs to GrooveShark for the visibility).
Obviously I like that GrooveShark lets me create a song widget so I can post a song from one of my favorite bands that also happens to be about money to this blog article. I can also email my playlist to someone or share music with my friends (become one!) on http://www.facebook.com/LivingWellonaBudget
Another feature I like about Grooveshark is that when you search for and find a song, Grooveshark will give you a number of other recommendations for “similar songs”. More than a few times, I clicked ‘add’ based on the recommendation.

Here’s a review of Grooveshark you might also want to check out. If you have an opinion or another good free (legal) music site to tell us about, please post a comment.
