On August 5th my local Congresswoman in the House, Anna G. Eshoo, sent this Healthcare Reform Bill update email to her constituents along with this healthcare Q&A covering the most common questions about healthcare reform legislation Rep. Eshoo has received from her district and answers to them. The email letter stated, “The House legislation as written today ensures that 97% of all Americans will have coverage under a healthcare plan that is affordable and offers quality, standard benefits. It protects choice, it rewrites the rules of the insurance industry, it encourages competition with a pubic opinion, and it assists small businesses who are struggling to cover employees with an affordable plan.”

This is not meant to be a political blog but politics can certainly affect your money. After reading the email and Q&A, I realize I need to try to get more educated about the proposed bill and complex issues regarding healthcare reform. Particularly when this will most likely affect my wallet. If you’re like me, and trying to get up to speed so you can form an educated opinion, here are some good information resources for you to check out:

Doctors for America is a national grassroots organization that engages physicians in health reform efforts. They work to share physicians’ ideas and experiences with Congress and the public in order to fashion and support the best possible solution to our current healthcare crisis. Doctors for Amercia works to convey the ideas and experiences of physicians to achieve healthcare reform based on four key pillars: affordable coverage, expanded access to care, high quality care, and practice environments that allow physicians to focus on patient care. While you need to be a physician to be a member of this organization, there is A LOT of publicly available information on this site, especially under the Resource Center, for you to use to help educate yourself about the topic of healthcare, legislation and reform.  There’s also a map to help find Town Meetings and events on the web site.

Maybe Republicans don’t need health care but I don’t want my grandchildren to wait another few decades to get the kind of decent coverage at a reasonable rate that people in DEVELOPED countries get.
